Battier earns division award for Sportsmanship
Houston forward receives the honor for the second straight season
HOUSTON -- Shane Battier is still a pretty good sport.
The Rockets forward was one of six NBA stars selected as a divisional winner for the
2007-08 NBA Sportsmanship Award, putting him in the running for the
league's top honor.
Battier received the honor for second straight season and third time in his career. Before coming to Houston prior to last season, the forward earned the Southwest Division's award when he was with the Memphis Grizzlies.
The division winners include Detroit's Antonio McDyess, Phoenix's Grant Hill, Portland's Brandon Roy, Toronto's Chris Bosh and Washington's Antawn Jamison.
The NBA Sportsmanship Award honors the player who best represents the ideals of sportsmanship on the court as selected by the league's players. The annual award reflects the ideals of sportsmanship -- ethical
behavior, fair play and integrity -- in amateur and professional
basketball.
Chicago's Loul Deng received the award in 2006-07.
The award will be given to one of the league's six finalists at the conclusion of the regular season.
