LEWIS AND NELSON NAMED TO 2009 NBA ALL-STAR TEAM
Orlando sends three players to NBA All-Star Game for first time in history.
Orlando, FL – Orlando Magic forward Rashard Lewis and guard Jameer Nelson have both been named to the 2009 NBA All-Star team, the National Basketball Association announced this evening. It will be Lewis’ second trip to the NBA All-Star Game and Nelson’s first honor.
It also marks the first time in franchise history that three players from Orlando will participate in the NBA All-Star Game. Dwight Howard was named a starter by the fans last week, tallying an NBA-record 3,150,181 votes.
Lewis (6”10”, 230, 8/8/79) has started all 44 games this season for Orlando, averaging 19.3 ppg., 6.0 rpg., 2.6 apg. and a team-high-tying 1.23 stlpg. in 36.8 minpg. He also leads the NBA in three-pointers made and attempted, connecting on 129-of-303 (.426) from beyond the three-point arc. Lewis has scored in double figures 42 times, netted 20-plus points 25 times and a season-high 30 points once (Dec. 1 @ Boston). He has led (or tied) the team in scoring 11 times, in rebounding five times and in assists three times. Lewis was also an NBA All-Star in 2005 with Seattle (now Oklahoma City).
Nelson (6’0”, 190, 2/9/82) has played and started in 39 games this season for the Magic, averaging 16.9 ppg., a team-high 5.4 apg., 3.4 rpg. and a team-high-tying 1.23 stlpg. in 31.5 minpg. He is shooting .504 (252-of-500) from the field, .446 (75-of-168) from three-point range and .880 (81-of-92) from the free throw line. Nelson has been named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week twice this season. He has scored in double figures 35 times, has netted 20-plus points 14 times and recorded a career-high-tying 32 points on Dec. 15 @ Golden State.
