NBA.com: James Singleton Player Profile

|

Forward James Singleton makes his NBA debut this year after suiting up for AJ Milano in the Italian SerieA League over the past two seasons. The 6-8 Murray State product brings ridiculous athleticism and a work ethic that is sure to make him a STAPLES Center fan favorite. "I know that there's always going to be somebody coming in that's gunning for your spot," said Singleton at Training Camp '05. "So if you want my spot, you're going to have to kill me to get it!" Singleton is that rare breed of player that, while possessing the envious ability to play above the rim, derives the same joy from drawing a charge as from a thunderous dunk. He may encounter some difficulties in his adjustment to NBA life, but his work ethic and love for the game should help him to become a key component to the success of the 2005-06 Clippers.

Legendary broadcaster Ralph Lawler checks in with his preseason player predictions:
"He was a big hit in Italy and hard work overseas got him his shot in the NBA. He goes after every rebound and plays with a lot of energy. Remember how much you used to love Bo Outlaw?"
Singleton is a tough read, fantasy-wise. On one hand, he's a rookie and untested by NBA standards. However, he does have two seasons of professional hoops under his belt and a work ethic that borders on maniacal. (Rumor has it that he was spotted doing sprints at 5am on a hotel treadmill on the first day of Training Camp '05) He's struggled a bit with consistency this preseason, but his 11-point, 12-rebound performance against Sacramento made us take note. Singleton won't challenge for a starting spot in your fantasy lineup, but keep your eye on him as the season progresses. He may be a pleasant surprise off the free agent wire come December/January.
