  • OVERVIEW
After struggling from behind the 3PT line in last year, the Clippers spent this past summer with an eye on improving their perimeter attack. Enter Walter McCarty. With a 6-10 and sweet shooting touch, "Waltah" (our apologies to the Celtics legendary forward and broadcaster Tom Heinsohn) has caused defensive problems since his days as a Kentucky Wildcat. LAC bigs like Chris Kaman and Elton Brand will breathe a sigh of relief whenever Walter is on the floor, as he demands perimeter attention from opposing defenses. His 55 3PT buckets last season would have been good for second best overall on the 2004-05 Clippers---a fact not lost on the former Celtic and Sun. "[The Clippers] don't have a big guy who can space out the floor by knocking down the 3," he told Clippers.com during Training Camp. "I think I can do a lot with my game and bring some energy."

THE WORD FROM THE VOICE OF THE CLIPPERS
Legendary broadcaster Ralph Lawler checks in with his preseason player predictions:
"The Clippers sought another shooter and found one in this former Kentucky star. He banged down 137 3PT FGs just a couple of seasons ago with Boston and he'll be a welcome option off the bench this year."

    FANTASY OUTLOOK
We love what McCarty will bring to the Clippers this season, but we're not sure his value will translate into fantasy points. Walter's game is about intangibles that don't always show up in the box score. He's a great outside shooter, but his role on this team won't necessitate a boatload of 3PT shot attempts. He's not afraid to hit the glass, but will most likely stay on the perimeter to keep the defenses honest. So while he'll no doubt contribute to Clippers victories in 2005-06, he might not be as potent to your roto squad.
