NBA.com: Anthony Goldwire Player Profile

|

Anthony Goldwire will give the Clippers stability in 2005-06, as he brings seven seasons of experience to the LAC backcourt. He edged out Yuta Tabuse for the final roster spot on this Clippers squad due largely to his understanding of the NBA game. "We felt like if Sam was to go down we'd be dealing with Daniel Ewing and Yuta, two relatively inexperienced guys [at point guard]," Coach Mike Dunleavy told the LA Times. "Is that a risk that we could take? We didn't think so. This is about making the playoffs, and if it comes down to one game here or there, this [decision] was kind of important to us." In short, Goldwire's background as an NBA starter gives LA a competent leader off the bench and will help in the development of younger players such as Daniel Ewing and Shaun Livingston. He's also a solid component in the Clippers' postseason hopes for this season.

Legendary broadcaster Ralph Lawler checks in with his preseason player predictions:
"This is a well-traveled veteran who knows his way around the basketball court. He makes shots and he makes few mistakes."
Fantasy-wise, don't expect a whole lot from Anthony Goldwire. The savvy vet will help shore up the Clippers backcourt as Shaun Livingston rehabs his back, but its doubtful that he'll fill up a stat sheet for a roto GM's liking. His game is about tempo, heady decisions and valuable minutes to help reduce the big minutes on starter Sam Cassell. The Clippers are happy to have him on board, but fantasy owners should most likely take a pass on this floor general.
