The summer addition of Sam Cassell to the Clippers created an immediate buzz throughout the organization. After suffering numerous Cassell daggers throughout the years, it was comforting to know he'd be on the other side of the ball in 2005-06. "Sam is big time," Clippers swingman Corey Maggette said after Cassell dropped 30 in an overtime Timberwolves win last season. "I think he's one of the best point guards in the league. I don't think there is any other player in the league who does the stuff he does. He's a veteran. He has rings and he knows what to do." Added Elton Brand this preseason, "[Sam's] leadership, his ingenuity and his knowledge of the game are something I'm not accustomed to. I haven't played with a point guard who's been a veteran in this game so long and who knows the ins and outs of this game as well as he does." So instead of battling him in the final minutes of close games, Maggette and Brand will now team up with Cassell to help LA grab its first posteason berth in nearly a decade.

Legendary broadcaster Ralph Lawler checks in with his preseason player predictions:
"The good news is that the Clippers don't have to play against this guy anymore. The better news is that he'll be there to help the Clips finish those close games they were losing last season. He's one of the league's best with the game on the line."
A rejuventated Sam Cassell is already welcoming the opportunity to play big minutes for LA and is predicting big things from himself and the rest of the Clippers this season. However, roto detractors point to his age (35) and injuries last season as reasons for caution with fantasy owners. After watching Cassell run the floor and torch defenses this preseason, we recommend keeping him on your radar as Sam I Am looks to be a man on a mission in 2005-06.
